Pilates and your Circadian rhythm…
Talk of our body’s internal clock that regulates our sleep wake cycle, body temperature and other bodily functions over a 24 hour period is hot talk currently within the pod cast world! Otherwise known as our circadian rhythm.
How it works
The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in your brain is the master clock that controls your circadian rhythm.
The SCN responds to light and dark, and signals the pineal gland to release melatonin, which helps you sleep.
In the morning, the brain releases hormones like cortisol to help you wake up.
What can cause issues with its regulation
Light and dark have the biggest impact on your circadian rhythm.
Other factors include food, stress, physical activity, social environment, and temperature.
Artificial light and caffeine can disrupt your circadian rhythm.
Pilates can positively influence your circadian rhythm by promoting better sleep quality and regulating your sleep-wake cycle through exercise-induced changes in body temperature and serotonin levels.
Studies have shown that Pilates can improve sleep quality, potentially by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which can influence the circadian rhythm and promote better sleep.
Pilates can help you feel tired and create conditions that facilitate sleep onset. Performing Pilates before bed can raise your body temperature and reduce muscle tension, and then, as you cool down after the workout, this drop in internal temperature supports your body's natural rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep.
Morning Pilates for Regulation:
Exercising in the morning, including Pilates, can help regulate your circadian rhythm, especially when combined with exposure to natural light, which is particularly helpful during darker months.
I listened to this on Apple as a podcast but it can be downloaded on Spotify too but as always I’m giving you the YouTube link for all to access easily. It is a great listen with lots of tips for improving your circadian rhythm. The importance of natural sunlight in connection with using screens on mobile devices and so much more! I do hope you find it as useful as I did…
Store Update
Over the last five years I have enjoyed making my home made head rests for my Subscribers but as the Business is developing, finding time for this is proving tricky! Going forward I am handing this job over to ‘Bags of Love’ who produce all of my products for my ‘store’. As I am given whole sale discount- I’ll pass this on to my clients. I’ve refined the support cushion which is slightly larger (30 by 30cm) to give extra comfort for side series/kneeling exercises. It will still have 3 cm foam depth for optimum alignment of neck placement when the body is in supine.
You’ll find all my cushion designs in the store so if you would like an upgrade then press reserve button to contact me below…
APP update
Our next Social!
Thank you to those signed up for our 21st March evening out at Berro Lounge- looking forward to our evening out together shortly…
Dates for the Diary
The new Term starts on 1st April and runs through to 31st July. I will be booking Subscribers into the system this month to allow Pay As You Go clients access to book sessions. Unless I hear otherwise from Subscription clients, I will assume you wish to hold your space within your current class.
There won’t be any classes running within the Studio or Public group sessions from Tuesday 29th April to 7th May.
I will be trialling the new system for when I’m away with the pre recorded lesson available to Subscribers. This will be accessed through the ‘At Home’ page which is on my website. It will be pass word protected and clients will receive this in classes the week before and by email. If you would rather have your Subscription paused during my time away then please do let me know. The Tuesday evening class will have the option of an additional pre recorded class if they would like it as this class will miss two sessions.
